You're Beautiful Drama Review

Go Minyu (Park Shin Hye) is studying to be a nun while her twin brother, Go Minam (also played by Park Shin Hye), is working to become a Kpop star. Go Minam is about to sign a contract and become a member of the popular boy band A.N.Jell when he is forced to America to fix a messed up plastic surgery job. Go Minam's manager, Manager Ma, contacts Go Minyu and begs her to pose as her brother and sign the contract in his place. At first she declines Manager Ma but once he tells her his brother is using his stardom to find their missing mother she agrees to sign the contract in his place.
After Go Minyu has signed the contract Manager Ma admits that the correctional surgery in America will take a bit longer than planned and begs to Go Minyu to pretend to be her brother for a short amount of time. Go Minyu reluctantly agrees and is introduced to the other members of A.N.Jell:  cold hearted leader Hwang Taekyung (Jang Keun-Suk), sweet guitarist Kang Shinwoo (Jung Yong Hwa), and bubbly, air headed, drummer Jeremy (Lee HongKi). The moment Leader Taekyung meets supposed "Go Minam" he hates her and makes her life in the band difficult especially after he finds out she's really a girl posing as a boy. Being the sweetheart he is, Shinwoo takes Go Minam under his wing and treats her Kindly, but as soon as he accidently discovers that she's really a girl he starts to fall in love with her. Jeremy initially likes Go Minam but starts to reject her when he decides she's too feminine and believes that she's trying to seduce him. After a while Jeremy finds himself falling in love with Go Minam, whom he still believes to be a boy, and ends up sharing his secret Treasure Bus with her and lets her grow close to his dog Jolie.

The drama follows the struggles of Go Minam and the three boys who are in love with her as she tries to keep her true gender hidden while fighting her growing affection for seemingly cold hearted leader Taekyung.

Most Memorable Moment:

This moment is given to Lee HongKi. Jeremy was the best in this drama in my opinion. From the first time we saw him to the end of the series I loved him! His shinning moment was after he found out Go Minam was really a girl. His love for her grows even stronger and just as he's about to confess his love for her, via live song on the radio, he finds out Go Minam is in love with Taekyung and not him.

This is the scene directly after Jeremy finds out Go Minam doesn't love him and runs away to his Treasure Bus. Go Minam figures this is where he has gone and this is what she finds:

“Get off. This is my bus." Go Minam doesn't leave and Jeremy continues in confusion. "When I thought you were a guy, I was okay with it. When I found out you were a girl, I was okay with it. But if you like Tae-kyung hyung, I can’t be okay with it. Why? Why wasn’t it me? I told you about my treasure bus, and I let you close to Jolie, and I was going to sing a song only for you. Why don’t you like me?”

Go Minam ends up sitting on the opposite side of the bus and they remain silent for a while until Jeremy gets a call from the radio station he promised to sing for, his love confession. He consents to singing for the radio over the phone. Jeremy then proceeds to sing his happy love song for Go Minam, all while crying. After he's finished she finally speaks.
“They’re very good words.” She tells him. He answers, “But you can’t accept them. Right, Go Mi-nam?” Go Minam apologizes. Jeremy replies: “I can’t say it’s okay right now. When this bus returns to its place, then it’ll become okay.” When the bus comes to the stop, he tells her, “When I get off this bus, I’m going to return to being the happy Jeremy. Forget everything I said here. If you don’t forget them, I can’t return. Got it, Go Mi-nam?”
True to his word, Jeremy steps off the bus and puts on a happy face for Go Minam and suggests they go get ice cream. Just before they leave we see a pained look in flash in Jeremy's eyes and then it's gone, showing us that he's really not okay like he claims to be.

Lee HongKi did some seriously stellar acting here. It is possible to convincingly fake cry but to sob while singing and make it look real, without it being real, is impossible; so the only way for this to have been so convincing was for Lee HongKi to really feel this way in this scene. I bawled through the whole scene and then went back, watched it again and bawled some more.

Honorable Mention Moment:

Episode Six: Shinwoo knows Go Minam is a girl and has fallen in love with her (poor guy). Go Minam has just visited the Church where she was training to become a nun. She calls Taekyung, her ride home, but the evil Heyi picks up and tells her not to wait for Taekyung because he's with her right now. Well Go Minam is now stuck in Seoul with no mode of transportation to get back to the band's apartment Shinwoo calls her and offers her a ride back, but she refuses him, still believing Taekyung will pick her up. Shinwoo, however, is nearby and suggests she go eat something so she won't be hungry. Go Minam goes to the noodle place he suggest, not knowing Shinwoo is following her in "disguise". I love how a disguise for him is putting on glasses and a hat, so cute! He then suggests an ice cream place where she gets a "free" treat, paid for by him, and then a clothing store where she buys "discounted" clothing, also paid for by him.

Go Minam tells him of her fun day and thanks him, but her day can't be over yet he has a big surprise for her and tells her to turn around.
Go Minam starts to turn around but gets a call from Taekyung telling her he's waiting for her at the church. Excited, she hurries off, forgetting about Shinwoo's big surprise.

Sadly, he watches her go, saying, “You were almost here. You should have taken just one step more…” And she would have found out he knew she was a girl. Truly heartbreaking and unfortunately this is the first of many time we see Shinwoo make this face.

Rating: On a scale of 1-10, F4fighting! and I both give it a 9 for how much we loved it. The only problem we had was with the ending, and it wasn't such a big problem that it ended up ruining the drama for us. But seriously, everyone should watch this drama. Now. Go watch it now.

  2. I cried so much during that scene and now that I read this over again, I cried once more. Like, my heart feels so sad for Jeremy even though it was literally just acting.
